Estimated duration: 5.5 hours’ cycling at average moving speed of approx. 10mph, plus one food stop: total approx. 7 hours.
Please arrive at starting point 30 minutes before departure for photos and briefing.
Departure time: 10:00 from : Wooler Hostel, 30 Cheviot St, Wooler NE71 6LW
Getting to the start: Wooler is fairly rural, with no train connection. The hostel is in the town and signed. This will have been our finish point the night before.
Floors Castle Terrace Café – Kelso TD5 7SF. There is ample car parking here but no train station. You can wait in the cafe but do look out for the cycling group and make sure that the leaders know that you are joining at that point.
This is 22 miles from the start and 16 miles to the finish
Potential food stop / toilet break points en-route: distance from start/finish
This is a very rural ride so toilet breaks before and after Floors Castle will have to be ‘al fresco’. The food stop will be Floors Castle Terrace café where food is available but you can eat a packed lunch there if you wish.
First aid and general safety
The Ride Leader will have a first aid kit on all sections of the ride. Please also see Rider Guidance.
Specific danger points or features en-route: distance from start/finish
There are no traffic-free sections at this stage. There is one section on a busy road, outside of Kelso, so riding in single file will be necessary. All of the other roads are fairly quiet.
