8th December to 24th in Edinburgh – Edinburgh Christmas Tree Festival
Freedom from Torture had a tree in this annual festival for the first time and it was lovely. The Festival is at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, George Street, EH2 2P. It is in the centre of Edinburgh so do drop in if you are nearby. It’s over now, but people could and did visit, free, to see all 40 trees from 8th till December 24th – each day 10:00 till 18:00 and Thursdays till 21:00.
The decoration was designed, created and implemented by Nada Shawa and a team of elves. Good work elves!
Eight pieces of our clients’ writing, on the themes of ‘Freedom’ and ‘Women, were read on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August 2018. This is part of the Amnesty International Imprisoned Writers’ series which is an annual feature of this major festival, and those readings are held at 5.30pm each day and finish by 6.15pm. Tickets are free and obtainable from the box office on the day. If you are visiting Edinburgh and able to attend, the Local Group would be delighted to hear from you, though you can just attend as a member of the public, of course!
We’ve held a range of events over the past 15 years – here are a few snapshots.
The Garden Party of 2008 was a particularly good event for hat photographs!
